Just as the name says, for a person who is applying for a visa, a medical test result is required by immigration officers as part of the documents an applicant is expected to submit along with other visa application documents.
There are two ways visa applicants can submit their medicals.
- The applicant needs to wait for the Immigration officer to request for their medical examination result from an approved hospital
- Or the applicant has the option to go for an upfront medical test and submit the result along with their visa application document. This way, they send in their medical result earlier and the visa officer doesn’t have to request it anymore.

How Much Is Canada Medical Fee In Nigeria?
Most medical centers for visa applications do not put the amount they charge on their website until you get to the venue.
Whether you are going for an upfront medical test or the medical test after immigration requests for it, the process is the same.
The amount I paid during my medicals for my visa processing was 51,000 Naira at the time of writing this article. I used IOM(International Organization For Migration).
There are other approved medical centers you can use depending on the one closer to you. IOM and Qlife are the most used medical centers for visa applicants.

After you have done your medical examination in an approved medical center, you will be given a document which you will add to your visa application documents and submit.
After you submit the medical document, the medical center will also submit their own copy of your medical result directly to IRCC that you have done an upfront medical examination.

IRCC send emails to visa applicant and let them know about their medical status after going through it. Another way you can check your upfront medical status is by logging into your GCKEY account and checking it from your dashboard.

When you get to the venue where you will do your medical examination, in an approved medical center, you will be given your upfront medical report form to fill out.
What Is Next After Passing The Medical Exam For A Canadian Study Visa?
The next step is to request a copy of your medical result from the medical center where you did the medical examination. After that, you are expected to wait for IRCC to get back to you.
IRCC will let you know if you passed the medical test or not via Email and also, you will get a message on your GCKEY account stating the status of your medical result.
How Long Is Canada’s Upfront Medical Exam Valid?
From the date you did your medical examination, according to IRCC, your medical result is only valid for a year(12). If you do not enter Canada within a year from the date you did your medical test, then you would have to go for another medical test.
How Long Does It Take For Canada Visa To Be Approved After Medical?
It can take from 1-2 weeks to get a response from IRCC concerning your medical test result status. Note that your visa is not approved after the result comes out.
You still need to submit your passport for stamping and that also takes like 1-2 weeks also depending on your situation.
